Ghurka celebrates 40th anniversary with debut London store opening

Leather goods label Ghurka is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year with the opening of its first store in London.

The American-heritage brand, which is said to have been inspired by the British Brigade of Gurkhas unit that originally served in the British Indian Army prior to Indian independence and the East India Company, which is also celebrating its 200th birthday this year.

The debut store, which is located inside department store Fortnum & Mason, features the brands full range of leather goods and accessories. The shop also offers a unique capsule collection created in partnership with the Gurkha Welfare Trust, an organization which provides resources to retired Gurkha soldiers.

The label will donate twenty-five percent of the proceeds from the sale of items from the capsule collection to the organization. Items from the range include a limited edition duffle bag, backpack as well as a holdall in Gurkha’s regimental colors of green and red, retailing for 1,650 pounds, 1,125 pounds and 365 pounds respectively.

The brand has also developed an Office's Field Set which consists of a leather footlocker, chairs and an umbrella which will retail for 11,600 pounds.
