The British Fashion Council (BFC) and MTV have named Lucy Saunders the winner of the ‘Music Meets Fashion’ competition.

The BFC partnered with MTV, Iceberg, and River Island to create a competition among fashion design students from 21 fashion schools in the UK, and internationally that merges music, fashion, and sustainability in their designs.

Saunders’ winning designs are an 8-piece gender-neutral, size-inclusive, and sustainable collection that will be presented at London Fashion Week with a live performance by Ivor-nominated sensation Griff.

The MTV-inspired collection will be available exclusively at River Island.

Saunders from London’s Kingston University beat out hundreds of submissions and was selected by a jury of industry leaders, including Caroline Rush, chief executive of the BFC; Naomi Dominque, design director of River Island; and James Long, creative director of Iceberg.

Naomi Dominique commented in a press release: “Working with the finalists and Lucy has been an exciting process for us. They have all been dedicated to the project, and each of them has created something innovative that has suited River Island’s design ethos of inclusivity for all.”

Caroline Rush added: “Congratulations to Lucy Saunders on a well-deserved win! Working with MTV, River Island, Iceberg, and the incredible finalists has been incredibly rewarding throughout this challenging year. The creativity has remained inspiring and optimistic throughout, representing the strength and power of fashion to express emotion and propel people forward even during difficult times.”
