After months of speculation, Louis Vuitton announced that Nicolas Ghesquière has been hired as new creative director of women’s wear, in the wake of Marc Jacobs’s departure and is to start his new role immediately.

“Louis Vuitton has always incarnated for me the symbol of ultimate luxury, innovation and exploration,” said the former Balenciaga designer to WWD.com.The former Balenciaga designer will showcase his first collection for the luxury French brand next spring and Vuitton stated that their latest addition will bring “a modern creative vision to the house’s women’s collections, building on the values of refinement, savoir faire and extreme quality.”

Ghesquière
said he felt honored to be entrusted with such an important mission and “proud to join the history of this great maison. We share common values and a vision.” The designer is known for staging the some of the most exclusive and elite fashions shows during his time working for Balanciaga and in his new role as creative director for Louis Vuitton, Ghesquière will be able to help the brand re-cultivate its elite and premium global status. It is rumored that the designer was taken on to help create a new, more feminine image for the luxury brand in time for its 160th anniversary next year.

The young designer has been credited as the man who helped reinvented Balenciaga, left the company last November, after working with the fashion house for 15 years. In an interview with System magazine, Ghesquière revealed his growing frustrations with the brand, exclaiming that is was "really that lack of culture which bothered me in the end". He is currently involved in a lawsuit with Balenciaga, as the label is suing the designer for a breach of contract and asking 7 million euros in damage claims.

However his impeding trial did not seem to effect LVMH's co-founder, Bernard Arnault decision to hire him and Ghesquières arrival at Louis Vuitton signifies the completion of a series of new leaders at the luxury fashion house. Last winter, the French luxury brand made place for a new Chief Executive Officer, Micheal Burker, former CEO at Fendi and Bulgari, who in turn brought in none other than Delphine Arnualt, daughter of Arnault, to be his right hand at Louis Vuitton.

However the French luxury brand is not the only fashion house that is currently making changes in its leadership. Last year saw the addition of new designers at Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, while this year witnessed British label Burberry promoting its creative director to CEO, Jil Sanders losing its creative director once more and Diane von Furstenberg’s company president stepping down.
