In 1885, the hosier John Turnbull, and the salesman Ernest Asser opened a hosiery shop named John Arthur Turnbull in the prestigious St James area of London and they started making bespoke gentlemen’s clothes. In 1895, John Turnbull died so his associate Ernest Asser took over the shop and renamed it Turnbull & Asser. With its Bitish style, the brand has dressed Prince Charles, Sir Winston Churchill and Ronald Reagan. Today, Turnbull & Asser has stores in England and in the United States.
