The International Council of Shopping Centers has

appointed John Scott, head of business development at Debenhams, as chair of the ICSC European Retailer Group, which was re-established earlier this year.

Founded in 1957, ICSC is the global trade association of the shopping centre industry, and has more than 60,000 members from over 90 countries and includes shopping centre owners, developers, and retailers, as well as academics and public officials.

Commenting on his new role and the challenges facing retailers, Scott added: “I am delighted to chair this Group and look forward to encouraging even more retailers to get actively involved in shaping this vibrant industry.

“It will be highly advantageous to have a vocal Retailer Group within an organisation which has traditionally had a majority membership of developers and shopping centre managers. Our retail voice can help deliver the right retail space within new and existing shopping centres that are working to make themselves leisure and retail destinations.”

ICSC Europe managing director, Mike Morrissey, said: “Retailers join ICSC to network with members representing the industry’s most active owners and shopping centre managers. We are delighted that John has agreed to use his considerable knowledge and influence to lead this group.”
