On a regular basis prints from the 1950s are still a source of inspiration for their vital colour schemes and

idiosyncratic imagery. This autumn will see the release of Fashion Print by Marnie Fogg featuring over 200 prints from fashion design, exclusive illustrations and original artwork of print designers, from the fifties.

Post-war print design was no place for the lavish, the nostalgic, or the ostentatious. Founded on originality and innovation, the new world of art, architecture and textiles of the 1950s combined a fresh and contemporary attitude to design. The creativity of the period – the beginning of the atomic age – is given full expression in this sourcebook for design practitioners and students.

The 1950s were a period of unrivalled creativity and optimism and have majorly influenced fashion and textiles to date, especially in the recent popularity of all things vintage, floral and abstract. This book details the rise and expansion of the 1950s print industries and trends, with captivating designs from the likes of Lucienne Day, Robert Stewart and Maija Isola of Marimekko to name but a few.

Marnie Fogg is a fashion expert and media consultant on various aspects of the fashion industry. She lectured in Visual Studies and the Culture of Fashion at the University of Nottingham and has had extensive experience of interviewing leading contemporary designers.
