Alexander Mcqueen is to open a new flagship store in London’s

Savile Row to showcase its menswear collection.

The luxury clothing brand has signed a lease with the Pollen Estate for the new 4,400 sq ft store over two floors. While the ground floor will showcase the brand’s luxury men’s collection, the basement will offer a traditional tailoring service.

Alexander McQueen and Savile Row have a historic connection as the late Lee McQueen started his career as an apprentice tailor with Anderson & Sheppard before moving onto Gieves & Hawkes.

The Pollen Estate, which owns a considerable portion of Savile Row, said it was creating the flagship store to attract a high calibre retail tenant, preferably with a tailoring arm. The estate works closely with Westminster City Council and Savile Row Bespoke to protect and develop the art of tailoring in the Row and surrounding streets.

Mike Jones, partner at Drivers Jonas Deloitte who manages the Estate on behalf of Pollen, commented: "The building has attracted significant interest from a range of different businesses and a good number of quality tailoring businesses. The selection of Alexander McQueen reinforces the commitment of The Pollen Estate to the future of quality tailoring and luxury retail in the locality. Alexander McQueen’s arrival confirms the status and desirability of the Row to eminent retail businesses with tailoring, rather than the desire for a famous address, at their core."

Savile Row Bespoke commented: "We are really delighted with this news. This underlines the importance of the Row as the home of the world's finest tailoring and its continuing influence and relevance. It is completely complementary to our goals of retaining and building this reputation and will doubtless serve to inspire the many young tailors working here today."
