Online retailer Amazon is getting behind the wearable technology market by launching a dedicated store featuring more than 100
different wearable devices including activity trackers, smart watches, smart glasses, and wearable cameras.Wearable technology normally falls into more than one category, from technology to fashion and fitness, which has led Amazon to creating a dedicated shop to highlight the smart products that are designed to “track, connect and enhance your life.”
The store features established mainstream brands like Samsung and Sony, as well as wearable tech names including Garmin, Jawbone and GoPro, and emerging brands such as Misfit and Withings.
“The advances in wearable technology mean that customers can now charge their phone through their clothing, monitor their sleep patterns and even track their pets,” said Xavier Garambois, vice president of EU retail at Amazon. “This new store allows customers to find whatever they are looking for in one place – whether that is tracking fitness, staying connected through smart watches or capturing every adventure with wearable cameras.”
The dedicated store also features a ‘Learning Centre’, where customers can learn about devices, read reviews, in-depth buying guides, as well as compatibility information.
With the wearable technology marketplace predicted as one of the top tech trends of the year it is hardly surprising that Amazon have jumped onboard. A recent survey by Deloitte predicted that 10 million wearable devices would ship globally in 2014, from sophisticated gadgets to smart textiles and skin patches.
