Business Secretary Vince Cable awarded Angela Ahrendts, outgoing chief executive officer from
Burberry an honorary DBE (Dame Commander of the British Empire) during a ceremony held on Monday at the British government's Department for Business, Innovation & Skills.Ahrendts was given the honor for her contribution to British business, as under her leadership skills the luxury label Burberry has grown to become a global fashion house, with annual revenues tripling to over 3 billion dollars since her appointment as CEO in 2006.
During the ceremony Cable said: "I'm delighted to present this award to Angela who has made an outstanding contribution to British business. Burberry has enjoyed considerable success under Angela's leadership. She has revitalised this iconic British brand with flair and cutting edge innovation, allied with sound commercial acumen."
"She has become a landmark figure in business and like many successful women in Britain today, a powerful role model to the next generation of young British talent." As a American citizen, Ahrendts will be unable to use the official title of 'Dame,' but will be allowed to use the letters 'DBE' after her name.
Ahrendts will be joining Apple this spring as senior vice president of retail and online stores, as Christopher Bailey will be succeeding her current role at Burberry, whilst retaining his chief creative officer role.
