Asos is to stop selling Primark clothing on its e-commerce site, as the 12 week trial for the fast

fashion brand comes to an end.

Primark has said that it will not renew the option nor launch its own transactional website. Primark's finance director John Bason stated: the trial had provided some insight into online retailing but "the best way to get profitable growth is on the high street".

The Primark and Asos partnership was launched in June, with many styles selling out quickly.

“Primark had a high degree of interest from [Asos] consumers," noting that lines had sold out. But he stressed the alliance with Asos had been a “factfinding, toe-in-the-water" venture… “We are looking to make a more consumer-focused website but not a transactional website," he said.

Primark has avoided selling online because its budget pricing means that handling returns and deliveries could make the operation unprofitable. Bason said that Primark was focusing on store expansion instead.
