Atelier Millinery, run by Georgina Abbott, has been named Micro Business of the Year at
the annual Federation of Small Businesses Streamline Awards. The company, which offers bespoke and ready-to-wear headwear for men and women, as well as creative courses for hat designers in the making, was recognised for its achievements as a small business that employs less than 10 staff who ‘stand out from the crowd’.
Commenting on her win, Abbott said: “The millinery business is very traditional so I wanted to draw on that great British heritage and do something a bit different. Atelier Millinery promotes a number of independent milliners alongside our own house label which means we offer a wide range of styles.
“Our location in Kingly Court means we are amongst other independent retailers and creative businesses, which makes for an inspiring community. It's great to have a pat on the back and the encouragement to keep working hard on growing the business.”
Colin Willman, Chairman, FSB (Member Services) added: “Georgina’s business model shows that with a bit of creative thinking, a small business can generate income from a variety of sources, not just in-store or online.
“From establishing retail partners, to securing a presence at high profile sporting events, Georgina’s creative approach allows her to maximise revenue and take the business to even greater heights.”
The annual event recognises the contribution of small businesses in fuelling the economy’s growth, and the innovative approach business owners are making to drive success and boost their business fortunes.
Other winners included My Little Angels, a company providing baby clothes, toys and accessories, which won Online Business of the Year.
