As the day for Scots to vote on whether or not it will remain in union with England

draws closer, both the British Fashion Council and British Vogue's editor Alexandra Shulman have begun encouraging UK fashion industry to support the 'No' campaign for Scotland to stay part of Britain.

With the referendum taking place tomorrow, the BFC has voiced its concerns surrounding the vote by supporting an independent petition “Let's Stay Together”. On Tuesday, the council revealed to WWD that they support “a strong United Kingdom”.

“We have had great success in promoting British talents and British businesses. It would be a real shame to exclude Scotland from that,” added the fashion organization. “As an industry we are very proud of the heritage in textiles and the excellence in design colleges in Scotland.” Shulman stands by the BFC and expressed her support of the petition by reportedly sending an email to key industry figures asking those who support a unified UK to sign the petition.

So far the petition has gained supports from a number of key creatives in the fashion industry, as well as other creative industries with names such as Christopher Kane, Jemima Khan, Helena Bonham, Stella Tennant and Graeme Black adding to its current total of 109,000 signatures of support.

The BFC also voiced concerns about an independent Scotland causing issues for Scottish students who may wish to attend universities in England, but could be discouraged by “the international fees”. The fashion organization also highlighted the future risks surrounding “the possible difficulties in supporting manufacturers based in Scotland”.
