Online fashion retailer Boohoo has decided to give staff working at its distribution

center a 12 percent pay rise, in order to boost staff engagement.

The e-tailer claims that its choice to increase warehouse employees salary was in response to the members of staff which “have made Boohoo.com the successful business it is today,” according to Retail week.

The increase in salary is also designed to help attract suitable candidates to fill additional open positions at Boohoo's distribution center in Burnley.

The online retailer currently employs 450 members of staff at the site and has filled 200 fixed positions over the past three months. Boohoo.com is adding an additional 100,000 square feet of space to its sprawling 150,000 square foot center as part of its ongoing expansion plan.

The e-tailer's decision to increase staff wages comes as Amazon is denounced for its low pay and difficult working conditions. Last week saw the launch of a campaign by Union GMB, which calls on Co-op to dispose of its Amazon lockers in protest against the minimum wages the online giant gives to its staff.
