Box Technologies (Box), the technology solutions provider that works with

leading retailers, has launched the cielo Universal Dock (U-Dock) initially with the CL910 Motion tablet. The system integrates EPoS connectivity with a tablet, creating a fully-fledged, mobile EPoS solution.

The U-Dock and integrated tablet are designed to be positioned at a retailer’s pay point to offer an Electronic Point of Sale (EPoS) system.

However, the tablet can easily be removed by an operator and taken around the store to help engage with and assist customers where needed. When the time comes for a transaction, the tablet can continue to function on its own by connecting through WiFi or Bluetooth to peripheral devices. Alternatively, it can be put back into the U-Dock and other devices, such as USB printers, Chip and PIN machines, cash drawers or scanners may be used to complete the transaction.

The U-Dock is initially being launched with the Motion CL910 Motion Tablet, but will be developed to connect securely with a wide range of tablets.

Ian Patterson, head of retail at Box Technologies, said: "There is no doubting the importance of the tablet as a customer engagement tool in today's retail environment. With the U-Dock, we set out to turn the tablet into a serious business tool to ensure it has a dual purpose, solving two requirements with one solution.

"We wanted the device to manage the areas of both EPoS and tablet. Through U-Dock, all types of retailers can capitalise on their investment by adapting the tablets quickly to deliver point of sale functionality."

When housed, the device can be securely locked, to prevent theft - it also charges when docked. The U-Dock also takes up less space on the counter than a traditional EPoS system.

Patterson adds: "If retailers use tablets in store, and then dock these into the EPoS terminal, it also creates a more standard look and feel within the shop - as opposed to having separate payment and tablet devices."

The U-Dock can also be used to view stock levels, check when replenishment is required and confirm product availability.

Designed to be durable, the U-Dock is strongly made to withstand the rigours of use in retail and the Motion Tablet CL910 has a Corning® Gorilla® glass screen to minimise damage if dropped.

Box retail solutions address a wide range of retail challenges and opportunities including store design and merchandising.
