Box Technologies (Box), the technology solutions provider that works with leading retailers, has recently obtained CCC - the China Compulsory Certificate, to enable several of its range of EPoS systems to be sold into China.

The company, which is placing increasing emphasis on export, has - to date - received accreditation for two of its point of sale terminals; the cielo All-In-One Lite and the Vouge.

To support Cath Kidston's move into China, the retailer brought in technology solutions specialist, Box Technologies, to develop the hardware for the Chinese operation. The hardware used was the Vouge All in One - E5300 Processor with Star printer and Honeywell Scanner.

A total of 10 tills were designed and built in the UK and then shipped to China within a timeframe of 11-12 weeks.

Mike Padfield, IT director at Cath Kidston, commented: "Box Technologies listened to our requirements - the team appreciated the tight timeframe we were working towards, and the stringent requirements of Chinese Customs.

"The hardware needed to have 3C certification in order to get through customs; failure to comply could have meant the tills being held in customs for up to three months - which would have delayed the store openings. As it stood, we briefed Box at the end of 2012, and the stores opened in January of this year. And, so far, the shops have been well received by the local market."

The CCC certificate was introduced in 2002 and applies to imported goods as well as to Chinese products. Any goods which are imported, sold and/or used in business activities in China, must hold a valid CCC certificate. The CCC is similar to the European CE system, and has important implications for the quality, safety and robustness of the products covered.

Ian Patterson, head of retail at Box Technologies, said: "We are delighted to receive the accreditation after careful preparation of the systems. We have a vast portfolio of products which sell well across Europe, but our plan is to now export and exploit overseas business opportunities.

"The accreditation has already enabled some significant sales with a number of our key retail accounts and we look forward to announcing further activity in the coming months."

Box retail solutions address a wide range of retail challenges and opportunities with powerful solutions including online store design and merchandising, mobile payment solutions, loss prevention, facial recognition and digital signage with content management.
