Carlo Volpi wins Texprint’s best fashion-fabric award

Royal College of Art textile design graduate Carlo Volpi

impressed a judging panel made up of industry experts to take home Texprint's Body award for best fashion fabric at Texprint’s 40th anniversary presentation in London.

A judging panel featuring Browns creative director Caroline Burstein and designer Neisha Crosland reviewed the work of 24 selected textile designers who took part in Texprint’s mentoring and career development programme. They choose four winners; each received a £1,000 prize, courtesy of prize sponsors Pantone X-Rite, Liberty Art Fabrics and The Clothworkers’ Foundation.

Knitwear designer Volpi was praised for his “impeccable colour sense,” and Burstein added that it was “a unanimous decision” to award him the accolade. Other winners were Tania Grace Knuckey and Ying Wu, who are both also from the Royal College of Art. Knuckey scooped the Space prize, for the best fabric for interiors, while Ying Wu won the Pattern prize for her "upmarket and refined" scarves.

The final award for Colour was awarded to Central Saint Martins' Manri Kishimoto, who impressed the judges with her printed garments featuring her own illustrations, which were described as “outrageous” and “mind-blowing”.

Following Texprint London, all 24 designers will go on to present their work at Indigo, Paris, the textile design exhibition which is part of Première Vision Pluriel, taking place in September.
