New York-based fashion brand Catherine Malandrino

has been sold to Bluestar Alliance.

The French-born designer founded her namesake ready-to-wear in the noughties, and currently operates 11 boutiques and a distribution of 400 accounts, including many prestigious stores in the UK.

Bluestar Alliance acquired the Catherine Malandrino brand and intellectual property assets from Tahari ASL for an undisclosed sum.

The pair have established a new joint venture that will be majority-owned by Bluestar in partnership with Tahari.

Malandrino told WWD: “It’s a more open family. It will help me to realise the full potential of the brand, everybody feels very comfortable in the partnership,” added Malandrino, who said she will also have a stake in the company.

Malandrino said the new investment from Bluestar will allow her to reinforce the brand’s image through marketing and advertising, open more freestanding stores in the US and internationally, and expand her global business through licensed categories such as home and accessories.
