Online footwear retailer Cloggs has opened its first store on the high street since its acquisition

by JD Sports Fashion. The new store at Pride Hill in Shrewsbury opened over the weekend and is part of the e-tailer’s plans to open a chain of twenty standalone stores over the next five years.

The e-tailer previously had a standalone store in Birmingham Bullring, which opened in 2009 and closed earlier this year when JD Sports Fashion bought the business. The new store in Shrewsbury is 1,000 square feet and stocks an array of brands including Hunter, Clarks, Barbour and Converse for men, women and children.

Commenting on the new store opening, Chris Thomas, managing director at Cloggs said that it was an “important step” in the company’s journey to create synergy between its online and offline offering.

Details on where the next stores are to open has not yet been announced, but the Shrewsbury store is expected to be followed by two more by the end of 2014.
