Daphne Guinness buys Isabella Blow wardrobe

Isabella Blow's wardrobe that was to be auctioned at Christie's

this autumn has been bought it its entirety by Daphne Guinness.

The art and fashion collection was quoted in the New York Times of her purchase: “It’s Issy – it’s her D.N.A, it should not be scattered to the four winds,” said Ms. Guinness, who was a passionate follower of Mr. McQueen’s work and his greatest supporter after Ms. Blow’s suicide in 2007. Ms. Blow had championed Mr. McQueen’s work from the start of his career.

The 90 McQueen outfits, along with dresses by John Galliano and hats by the milliner Philip Treacy, were to have been put up for auction in September. Patricia Frost, director of fashion and textiles at Christie’s in London, called the collection “unique” and said it showed that Mr. McQueen “really deserves his place in fashion history.”

Ms. Guinness is an heiress to the Irish brewing family and was divorced in 1999 from Spyros Niarchos, son of the Greek shipping billionaire Stavros Niarchos.

The collection of clothing is being sold by Ms. Blow’s estate, under the guardianship of her sisters, and will now be kept together as a single entity.

“Like any artist, it should not be dispersed, but remain as a monument with people having access to it,” said Ms. Guinness.
