Brookfield's Place in lower Manhattan, which is currently undergoing a 250 million
dollar renovation to become a luxury shopping and leisure hub, recently signed on Diane von Furstenberg, who will be leasing a 2,000 square foot retail unit.
The designer brand is the latest among a growing list of exclusive fashion houses and labels to rent retail space in the downtown shopping center. Ed Hogan, national director of retail leasing for Brookfield told WWD: "Diane von Furstenberg is a New York Brand. It speaks to the people living and working downtown." Currently three-quarters of the available retail space at Brookfield Place has been rented out, whilst the remaining quarter of space is under negotiation, added Hogan.
The glassed, dome-shaped shopping pavilion, which is set to open in March 2015, has been busy signing on luxury fashion retailers such as Hermès, Michael Kors, Burberry, Ferragamo and Ermenegildo Zenga. The DVF store will be located in the center's courtyard, adjacent to Michael Kors. Both Burberry and Ferragamo have leased the largest space, each taking 5,000 square feet of retail space according to WWD. Brookfield Place will also feature a Equinox gym, offices, a dining area known as Hudson Eats and will connect to eleven subway lines and the PATH.
