Following in the footsteps of fellow designer Diane von Furstenberg, US designer Donna Karan has revealed plans to pen her own

autobiography.

“As I look back and reflect on my journey, I see how one chapter led to another, how something ended and something else began,” said the 65 year old fashion designer to WWD. “I’m very excited to share my story."

From her early life in Woodmere, New York, to the start of her career at Anne Klein and Patti Cappali, to the birth of her own label in 1985 - the Donna Karan Collection and the additional of her diffusion line DKNY in 1988, the story of her career will undoubtedly prove ample material for a memoir.

“Our lives are guided by what happens to us, and we choose which roads to take,” she added. “I was born into fashion. My father, a tailor, died, and that led me to Seventh Avenue. My mentor Anne Klein died, and I was named her successor — and at the same time, I became a mother. Ten years later, when I left Anne Klein, my husband Stephan [Weiss] and I launched Donna Karan and DKNY. Later, Stephan’s illness and death led me to create Urban Zen.”

The memoir will be published by Ballantine Bantam Dell, a division of publishing house Random House and is expected to launch sometime in 2015.
