In her new role, Metcalfe will utilise her experience spent as marketing director of luxury online fashion retailers My-Wardrobe.com and Cocosa.com prior to joining eBay, and will help the company capitalise on the grown of female shoppers on the site.

Clare Gilmartin, UK managing director, Ebay said: "With the sector undergoing a significant transformation, driven by the increasing need for retailers to adopt new technologies and channels to drive growth, Amanda’s blend of online and offline retail expertise will be invaluable.

“It’s an exciting time for our UK business, which is now our fastest growing market. We’re seeing particularly rapid growth in the number of female internet shoppers using our site and her background will help us to deliver a UK marketing plan that has an understanding of the female UK shopper at its heart."

Metcalfe added: "I’m delighted to be taking up this new challenge. Working at eBay allows me to use both my retail and ecommerce
