Former buying director for Harvey Nichols, Averyl Oates

has been announced as the deputy commercial director at Parisian department store, Galeries Lafayette.

Oates who was commercial director at online start-up Luxup, which ceased trading in March, will oversee the men’s, women’s, accessories and children’s departments, as well as emerging trends.

"They are really focused on their international expansion plans," Oates explained to WWD. "And while I don't think they are necessarily looking to embrace emerging designers, they have a company motto of 'fashion for everyone.' They talk to everyone of all different walks."

Oates added: "I love the fact that they're looking to make dynamic changes. I can bring a little bit more edge to the company, a fashion twist and look, and a future vision, which they're wanting to embrace."

Prior to joining Luxup, Oates was buying director for Harvey Nichols; she left in 2011 after being with the British retailer since 2005. Oates has also served as womenswear merchandise director at Harrods, global retail and merchandising director at French fashion house Emanuel Ungaro, and vice president of Donna Karan’s retail division.
