Gant by Michael Bastian comes to an end
3 Feb 2014
Michael Bastian’s collaboration with Gant is coming to a close with the Autumn/Winter 2014 collection, after nine seasons and
four pre-collections.“What everybody forgets is that this was always intended to be just two seasons,” Bastian told WWD. “But it took off, it was fun and doing well, so we extended it three more years. These kind of things are built to have an ending. It’s really sad, but it’s better to leave the party while it’s still going.”
The final AW14 collection serves as a full-circle moment for the brand, with Bastian describing it as “a lot like our first season”. Adding that the final season draws inspiration from high school football and the TV show ‘Friday Night Lights’ and features some of the label’s best sellers and his personal favourites, which will be available in limited quantities with a special commemorative label.
The line launched in 2010 for men, and was expanding for women in 2011, with Gant announcing last January that the last Gant by Michael Bastian womenswear line would be for Spring/Summer 2014.
