George at Asda has been recognized as one of the UK's

best internship providers at the National Council for Work Experience Awards 2013. The retailer won the Best of the Best title after beating all previous year’s winners in a one-off award to mark the NCWE Award’s 10th anniversary.

The awards recognize and reward employers who provide high quality internships to students and graduates. Winners were announced at a ceremony at the Merchant Taylors’ Hall in London by Timpson chairman John Timpson.

In choosing the winners, the judges considered how the intern and business had benefited, the level of support and payment for the intern, and what made the scheme exceptional compared to the competition. They praised George at Asda for placing its scheme at the heart of the recruitment process and as a key part in the company’s internal succession planning.

Paul Jenkins, senior resourcing manager from George at Asda said: "Our 12-month internship has been running for more than 15 years so it’s fantastic to receive this Best of the Best Award, which reflects the longevity and consistent high quality of our program. The simplicity of this program is what makes it exceptional – interns are our future stars and we want to give them as many opportunities to develop and progress, as possible."
