German fashion house Gerry Weber International has entered into a joint venture with one of its
franchisees to open a series of retail stores at selected German train stations. The company's new partner already operates four Gerry Weber stores and one Samoon mono-label store within the shopping centers that are part of Berlin's main railway stations and has integrated these stores into its new joint venture.
“Thanks to their high footfall, the shopping malls in many German railway stations are becoming increasingly attractive for retailers,” explained Ralf Weber, the company board member who is charge of the retail segment for Gerry Weber International.
“They complement the shopping possibilities in the city centres and offer customers a diverse product range. We therefore decided to make growing use of this distribution channel for the Gerry Weber brands in cooperation with an experienced partner.” The company aims to open additional Gerry Weber, Taifun and Samoon stores within other key German railway stations.
The joint venture, which Gerry Weber hold a majority stake of 51 percent in, not only includes the five existing Gerry Weber stores, but also the wholesale business in Eastern parts of Germany and Eastern Europe. The company has a purchase option for the 49 percent owned by its partner from 2019.
