Glasgow Caledonian University, which offers numerous fashion degree programmes,

is opening its New York satellite campus today, April 7, to coincide with Scotland Week.

Located at 64 Wooster Street in the SoHo district, the campus marks the first British university to launch a satellite campus in the city, and will be open with a series of high-profile events, including the presentation of the inaugural Caledonian Lecture by Scotland’s First Minister, the Rt. Hon. Alex Salmond MSP.

On April 8, GCU’s first town hall series ‘Fashion Sharing Progress’ will begin with high-profile heritage brands, Scottish cloth manufacturer Harris Tweed Hebrides and US clothier Brooks Brothers, exploring sustainability and ethics in the fashion industry.

Principal and vice-chancellor of GCU, professor Pamela Gillies CBE, said: “The opening of our Wooster Street campus brings together three great cities – Glasgow, London, and New York – which share a history of multi-cultural endeavour and enterprise, coupled with a strong desire for continuous learning, a deep-rooted social conscience and a commitment to the common good.

“Glasgow Caledonian University, its students and staff and the partners we work with in industry and the public sector will benefit enormously from the New York campus, which represents a key element in our internationalisation strategy.”

GCU New York will initially offer a range of non-credit and non-degree related executive education programmes and master classes, including the business of fashion, luxury brand management, social business and finance and risk management. This will be extended to include a range of full-time and part-time Masters Degree programmes, subject to approval by the education authority NYSED.
