Sainsbury’s, the UK’s seventh largest clothing retailer, has signed a newtwo-year deal with TV personality Gok Wan, the creative force behind its successful Gok for Tu collections.
The announcement came as the supermarket revealed that its clothing business, which continues to take market share, is growing at around 10 percent year-on-year – helped by the success of Gok Wan’s flattering pieces for women.
The first Gok for Tu launched in October 2011 and under the new agreement the TV personality will oversee a further 12 collections, with his eleventh rolling out across 200 Sainsbury’s stores from February 25.
Commenting on the deal, Sainsbury’s clothing director James Brown said: “The Gok for Tu collections have played an important part in the success of our clothing business. Our partnership with Gok works because we share a passion for producing clothes which make women feel great. He works closely with our in-house team of designers on every detail, from the sketches, fabric, sourcing and manufacturing.”
Wan added: “I’ve got many more gorgeous design ideas up my sleeve to make Sainsbury’s customers feel amazing with flattering, sophisticated and confidence boosting styles – and can’t wait to get stuck into the next twelve collections.”
Due to the success of its clothing brands, Sainsbury’s doubled its design team last year as part of its continuing investment into the sector, which led to a new contemporary feel for its Tu clothing brand under the strapline “Live Your Style”.
