Shortly after Marks & Spencer unveiled its new magazine-style

website, news broke that British department store group Harvey Nichols is preparing to relaunch its website.

The group has already invested millions of pounds into its online site, according to Drapers, as the group's leaving CEO Joseph Wan aims for the department store to become one of the country's main multi-channel retailers. He added that he would spend “whatever it takes” to overhaul Harvey Nichols website to give its customers a true brand experience.

“This is the first major total revamp of the website,” commented Wan. “We have evolved it slowly since we went transnational about six or seven years ago. After the relaunch we hope to be one of the leading multi-channel department stores. What you see will be a significant improvement of what you see today.”

The renewed site, which was mostly developed by the group's in house team, will allow customers to make purchases via tablets, mobiles as well as PCs and offer 360 degree image photography as well as a fuller range of the products currently offered in physical Harvey Nichols stores.

Wan hopes that the upgraded website will help increase online sales to account for 10 percent of the group's total revenues over the next few years. Harvey Nichols new website is set to launch end of March, as Wan will be exiting the group and is to be succeed by Stacey Cartwright.
