Innovative lingerie design wows industry

Second year students on the BA (Hons) Contour Fashion course

at De Montfort University (DMU) in Leicester have won prizes courtesy of component manufacturers Fildan Accessories for their designs incorporating the company’s new technology.

The students were challenged with a competition brief to design and create innovative applications for Fildan’s new, patented Butterfly Hook and Eye closing system. A selection of the students’ work and the winning designs will be on show at the Fildan Accessories stand during lingerie show Interfilière Hong Kong in March. Winning first prize for her ‘Mama Amore Maternity and Nursing Range’ designs was Sarah Cordery (19) from Ipswich, who utilised Fildan’s component as part of her supportive maternity creations.

Fildan Accessories is a privately owned fastener design and manufacturing company, with an innovation centre based in Austria. The metal-free microfiber Butterfly Hook and Eye closure system is the latest, patented product to be released by Fildan and is available for worldwide manufacture under licence. It promises to revolutionise the design of bra fastenings with its flat shape, continuous sequence of fabric and to enable the use of various fabrics from nylon to natural fibres or blends.
