Joanna Sykes has been appointed creative director
of Nicole Farhi. Formerly Aquascutum creative director, Sykes left the label in early June after it was placed into administration in April and sold in May."Nicole Farhi has always been about timeless style and effortless elegance," the brand's founder, who is still a significant shareholder and key partner in the business, said today. "Jo understands these qualities and brings a fantastic eye for detail, as well as a great understanding of cut, proportion and fabrication."
A graduate of Central Saint Martins, Sykes has previously consulted at Giorgio Armani and was womenswear designer for Alberta Ferretti and Philosophy. After several months of uncertainty at her previous brand, she is understandably looking forward to her new challenge.
"I am extremely excited at the prospect of joining Nicole Farhi," Sykes added. "It is an iconic, British brand with fantastic heritage and enormous potential. I can't wait to get started."
Sykes will start at the beginning of September and her first collection will be for autumn/winter 2013-14. In addition to Sykes' appointment, Francois Steiner - who was announced as interim CEO in May - has confirmed that he will remain with the company permanently as CEO.
