The John Lewis Partnership has appointed Waitrose

managing director Mark Price as its deputy chairman, to succeed David Barclay who is concluding his final term in office as a non-executive director.

Price will continue in his role as managing director of Waitrose, which is part of the employee-owned John Lewis Partnership, and will assume his additional responsibilities in August.

Charlie Mayfield, chairman of the John Lewis Partnership, said: “I am delighted that Mark will be taking up the role of deputy chairman. In his 31 years with the Partnership, Mark has worked across John Lewis, Waitrose and group roles and is well placed to take on this additional leadership role at a Partnership level as we continue to grow our business.”

Barclay, who joined the John Lewis Partnership as one of the group’s first non-executive directors in 2006, before becoming deputy chairman in 2007, will continue to serve on the Partnership Board until February 28, 2014 as chair of the remuneration committee and to assist in recruiting his successor as non-executive director.
