Essex-based designer José Hendo, whose studio is based

in Tottenham, North London, was awarded the Radical Designer Award by The Fashion Designers & Crafts Makers Awards, which are backed by the Barnardo’s charity.

Hendo, who made her debut at London Fashion Week with Fashion Finest in September, was named the winner after an extensive judging process, which included a presentation to a judging panel and a catwalk showing the collections of all participating designers.

Her ethical and environmentally-conscious couture Resonance Collection constructed entirely of organic materials is what impressed the judges. As well as her mantra of the three Rs - Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Her collections explore a new way of dressing and thinking about clothes, and doesn’t feature metal snap, plastic fastener or buttons the garments are completely biodegradable.

The Radical Designer Award is designed for fashion designers over the age of 21, who have a fashion label or are about to set up a fashion house, and rewards exceptional cutting edge design talent and identifies those who break through the boundaries of creativity and become fashion leaders of the future.

Hendo's designs will be next be shown at the Curves in Couture Charity Catwalk Show in November.
