Womenswear designer label Joyce Ridings has been placed into liquidation following the death

of its designer last month after a long illness.

Joyce Ridings womenswear designs have been sold from major high street stores for more than 40 years and for the past six years the label has had its own store in the heart of Manchester.

At the weekend the label closed its flagship store and appointed accountancy firm Mazars to handle the company’s forthcoming liquidation.

Tim Askham, restructing services partner in the Manchester office of Mazars, said: “Remaining stock has been flying off the racks as loyal customers have been rushing to the shop’s closing down sale.

“It’s obviously extremely sad to be handling a company’s liquidation following the death of its owner, even though Mrs Ridings had been very ill for a long time. We’ve been instructed only this week and it was no surprise to find there was virtually no stock left. The customers have done that bit of our usual job for us.”

Although the majority of the existing stock has already been sold, Mazars has confirmed that it will be looking to sell the late-designer’s patterns and designs, which stretches back more than 10 years.

Askham added: “We think these will be of interest to the fashion trade.”
