March, luxury holding group Kering is reportedly set to invest 15 million euros into the construction of a new tannery.

According to a source close to Kering, there are plans in the making to construct a new tannery in Périers, Normandy close to the group's current tannery. The new tannery could create up to 150 jobs according to French news sources, in addition to the 50 employees who currently work at France Croco and will be able to process six times the quantity of its forerunner.

“The expertise of the local labor force and the municipal council's commitment to building a water treatment plant serving the new tannery as well as to taking on responsibility for the conversion of the existing plant are key factors in the project going ahead,” said the source according to Just-style.

A growing number of luxury fashion houses and holding companies appear to be investing in acquiring their own tanneries, such as Chanel who acquired its first tannery last month, in order to secure and control a quality supply chain.
