Kew 159 stores to close down

Robinson Webster Holdings is expected to offload its Kew 159 womenswear business

as it looks to focus on the more profitable Jigsaw fashion chain.

If a buyer cannot be found, the majority of Kew’s 16 stores and 22 concessions will be turned into Jigsaw or Jigsaw Menswear shops, while some shops will be sold to other retailers.

The move follows a strategic review by Robinson Webster. Last year Kew 159 saw its sales fall to £20.5 million from £22.1 million in 2010 despite a relaunch of the brand.

The company said it was in the process of entering discussions with its shareholders, stakeholders and staff to explore a potential sale of Kew as a going concern although some job losses will be “inevitable”.

A Robinson Webster spokesman said: "It is hoped the orderly closure will allow staff to find roles in other parts of the group or elsewhere."
