London fashion week designer Kinder Aggugini is teaming

up with the English National Ballet to redesign the costumes for the late, legendary choreographer Kenneth MacMillan's version of The Rite of Spring, which includes a graphic striped black bodysuit.

The production, which takes place as part of the Beyond Ballets Russes season, which will be celebrating the legacy of Russian choreographer Diaghilev's legendary dance company, will be shown at the London Coliseum in March this year.

The collaboration follows on from the Italian designer creating a one-off tutu for the company’s fundraising summer party last year, where he was approached by the English National Ballet’s artistic director Wayne Eagling.

Aggugini said of the commission: “The guidelines for ballet costumes are quite strict, so on top of an appearance, one has to consider functionality and durability,” he said. “I guess it’s a bit like designing a Batman outfit, but in this case there was also a clear vision from one of the most revered British choreographers. This is what makes the project so special — it’s not just a costume, it’s the resurgence of an iconic work of art.”
