Capital Shopping Centres has announced plans for a

£180million upgrade of Lakeside Shopping centre in Essex.

Plans include 30-40 additional shops and new flagship stores, whilst the investment will result in the creation of 2,500 extra jobs, once the development is complete.

Paul Lancaster, general manager of Lakeside, said: “Lakeside has served the community for the past 21 years, and we’re very excited about this new development. This development will allow us to introduce new brands and widen our offer to customers. The proposed integrated transport hub will make using public transport easier, with shorter and sheltered links between bus and rail. “This £180m project is a major statement of our confidence in Lakeside and we hope it will further raise the profile of Thurrock for other businesses"

Lakeside, which has a total of 250 shops, restaurants and cafes, last underwent a major refurbishment in 2005 and opened The Boardwalk waterfront leisure area in 2007.
