London, who was previously declared to be the world's fashion capital

two years in a row, has lost it's title according to the Global Fashion Capital Index tenth annual survey for 2013.

The English capital city slid into third place, as New York city beat Paris by the smallest difference registered in ten years, 0.05 percent, to claim the title, whilst Paris was also named top global fashion capital for Haute Couture in addition to coming in second place. The city of Los Angeles moved up five places from 2012, to come in fourth after London.

"New York City, has indeed, earned its Top Global Fashion Capital ranking through its disciplined, methodical yet creative approach to its fashion industry," commented Bekka Payack, New York-based fashion director for the Global Language monitor which issues the survey each year. Payack adds that "Paris, with the Top Haute Couture ranking, of course has a centuries-long heritage, having invented the very concept, also scored highly in the pret-a-porter category."

"This year's rankings also demonstrate the creative energy that is emerging worldwide in terms of fashion as jobs, income and wealth generator, not to mention the prestige associated with exporting your fashion sense to the world," concludes Payack.

The Global Language survey, carried out by the Global Language monitor is a year-long analysis that tracks the use of selected fashion-related words and phrases on the internet, searching over 250,000 news outlets as well as social network and media sites.
