Four out of five British stores are selling men's trousers with a waist up to two inches inch

wider than the measurement shown on the hanger.

According to the Telegraph, any man cheered up by being able to squeeze into the same size of trousers despite a growing waistline, here is the hard truth: you have fallen victim to vanity sizing. The retailing phenomenon of manipulating the true size which began with womenswear, has now spread to men, being dubbed "manity sizing".

The Sunday Telegraph found more than half of trousers on sale at a cross-section of high street shops and supermarkets are flattering to deceive. M&S is one of 10 retailers where waists were found to be generous; a pair of 36 inch waist suit trousers were at least 37.5 inches when checked with a measuring tape.
