Michael Kors names president of Asia

Luxury fashion and lifestyle brand Michael Kors has named Stephane Lafay as president of Asia, a newly created role as the fashion house looks

to build on its “momentum” in the region.

Lafay will join Michael Kors on July 28 and he will report into John D. Idol, chairman and CEO of Michael Kors Holdings Ltd.

Commenting on the appointment, Idol said: “This is a pivotal moment for the brand as we continue to invest and work to build a strategic road map for the Asia region. Stephane has a long history of building luxury businesses in Asia. His skills and experience will be a tremendous asset for us going forward.”

Most recently, Lafay was with Tiffany & Co. for five years, where he was senior vice president, Asia-Pacific and Japan. Prior to that he was president of Bulgari Japan and also served as general manager of parfums Nina Ricci Japan.

Idol added: “The Asian market is an important region for us to develop as we continue to grow our global luxury brand. We’re excited to take advantage of the momentum our brand has recently generated. In the past two years we’ve been able to double our store count to over 100 locations in the region. Stephane’s experience and leadership will help enable us to capitalize on our momentum in the region.”
