Michael Kors to expand retail footprint in India

US fashion label Michael Kors has revealed plans to expand its retail presence
in India and is set to open additional stores throughout the country.The mid-level luxury fashion brand has already opened four stores within a year after its foray into India, and counts stores in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore. Michael Kors has attained positive feedback from customers in the area since its entry in the country, mostly from clientele who are in search of high-end accessories, such as the labels famous monochrome handbags, watches and womens footwear.
Michael Kors aims to open additional stores later this year, tapping into increasing consumer interested in luxury goods. According to a recent study by consulting firm KPMG and Assocham, the luxury goods segment, which includes apparel, accessories, watches, and home decor, increased by 30 percent to 8.5 billion dollars, or 5 billion pounds according to current exchange rates.
In 2013, the luxury fashion brand joined forces with Genesis Luxury Fashion, a local franchise partner based in New Delhi, to open stores throughout the country. Genesis Luxury has helped introduced a number of luxury labels into the country in the past, including brands like Paul Smith, Bottega Veneta, Jimmy Choo, Armani, and Furla.
