Michael Kors wins counterfeit case

The latest designer to file suit against counterfeiting is US-based designer Michael Kors.

Kors filed against the digital distribution of unauthorized products, having won $24 million in damages in court.

In November, the American company filed a case against several websites such as MichaelKors-Outlet.net and MichaelKorsSale.com, which were selling items ranging from bags, wallets, shoes, and watches all branded with the Michael Kors trademark. In addition to the millions of dollars in damages, the company was also granted a permanent injunction against the websites, and will also be able to collect damages from any third-party payment websites such as PayPal.

Other fashion house giants have also won counterfeit cases against illegal digital selling. In May, Burberry was awarded $100 million in damages from trademark infringement, though it has now found itself on the other side of the fence, and is being sued by the estate of Humphrey Bogart for use of the actor's images for its online campaigns.
