Modefabriek 35 | Programme Highlights

Just two weeks to go until the RAI in Amsterdam

is once again given the Modefabriek makeover it gets twice a year. On 14 and 15 July it will be transformed for the Spring-Summer 2014 fashion season. Modefabriek’s overwhelming choice of new collections, clearly divided into the usual segments, will be accompanied by a packed programme of sideline activities, full of inspiration, the latest professional expertise and relaxation for all the guests.

Entrance

Guests will be greeted upon arrival by 'The Special Edition' from Trash&Treasures Outdoor. The outdoor area in front of the entrance to Modefabriek will be turned into a mini festival of "fashion, furniture, wannahaves & craziness". Tasty treats will be offered by Koko Coffee & Design, Köfte Kanto and t Friethoes, between the DJ and the Jutka&Riska, The Hunted Attire and Project Suitcase pop-up shops.

Once guests have gone inside they will find the Trendcarrousel, a forecast installation with text and images showing the main trends for 2014. What better place to kick off their journey through the following segments and platforms!

Men first

The new Chapter platform is back for its second edition directly across from the entrance. Chapter provides an ideal setting for the most up-to-date growing trend in luxury casual and sartorial menswear, a refined mix of sartorial and tailor-made snobbishness and high-end heritage and denim brands. The labels in Chapter include Aeronautica Militaire, Aspesi, Barbour, Blauer, Eton, Façonnable Tailored Denim, Fugato, Hackett, JOTT, Manuel Ritz, North Sails, Sartoria Tramarossa , Scalpers, Siviglia, Susudio, Tombolini and Wool & Co.

The familiar top brands will be features in the adjacent men’s segment Department, including Roy Robson, Goliath Sportswear, Hamaki-Ho, Circle of Gentlemen, Mastrum, Cold Method and Sundek.



Men's fashion is as dominant as ever on the denim platform Blueprint. This is another sector which is moving at a fast pace. The HTNK Story Store will stand out between the famous brands at this edition once again with a range of small and local labels such as Benzak Denim Developers, Daily Paper, Filling Pieces, Incase, Mick Keus, OntFront, Olaf Hussein, Kurt and Ven & Vogel.
This edition of Modefabriek reflects more clearly than ever how processes are now increasingly important. Jesper Remmerswaal of Tulp Jeans will showcase his jeans-making craft and the old industrial machines that it involves, including a Union Special 35800, a Union Special 6900 belt loop and a Reece 101 keyhole machine. Guests can see one of these machines live in action.
Another ‘live craft’ performance will be given by Flybird designer Franky Boateng, who will be giving an on-the-spot demonstration of how he makes his bags and accessories. A special Nudie Jeans 'denim stage' will be there, where the band Valerius will perform a few acoustic tracks on Sunday, and (not to be missed at Blueprint) the 'Blue Archives', an exhibition of special items from the archives of the renowned Swiss jeans collector Ruedi Karrer. The exhibition at Modefabriek has been put together by Wouter Munnichs from long-john.nl, and celebrates Karrer's 40th year as a denim collector.
And with all this going on, don't forget to cast your vote for one of the finalists of the Modefabriek x PRJCT AMS design contest. The winning menswear design will be put into production and will then be put on sale in the PRJCT AMS shop/gallery in the 'negen straatjes' area of Amsterdam.

MINT and even more sustainability

Another platform that is as contemporary as ever is MINT, a collaboration between Modefabriek and Marieke Eyskoot, who owns the fair fashion expertise agency Talking Dress. This edition of MINT, its fourth, once again provides unmistakable proof that fashion and lifestyle combine perfectly with sustainable working and manufacturing methods. As well as established brands, and a bunch of new 'forward fashion' brands such as KISS AND TELL and wunderwerk, MIND also offers a packed programme of informative and creative workshops by WellMade Sessions/Fair Wear Foundation, Dear Fashion Diary and Päälä, and the launch party for OAT‘s new range of baby shoes "OATies" and the innovative furniture concept Fashion Furniture Design.

In the connecting hall, the Vintage Kilo Sale will be giving its interpretation of the concept of sustainability in its own inimitable way. Working together with Rerags, vintage fashions will be on sale by the kilogram, alongside a selection of top items for connoisseurs, and purchases can then be livened up, printed or their colour changed on the spot by the Mesh Print Club.

Cutting Edge and other designer talent

Modefabriek would not be Modefabriek without a wide range of up-and-coming designer labels and rising stars. This season, the Cutting Edge platform will be presenting the Berlin designer label Augustin Teboul, which is taking the international market by storm, currently on sale at L’eclaireur in Paris and Apartment in Berlin and more.

A little further along, the Dutch Fashion Foundation will be presenting a stunning selection of designers from the Netherlands with an audience abroad all under the name of 'Dutch Touch Coming Home', including Marsha Huskens, SIS by Spijkers & Spijkers, Atelier de L'Armée, Ready to Fish and Youasme Measyou.

As part of their online registration, fashion fans can also book tickets for a number of shows at Amsterdam Fashion Week, with which Modefabriek has entered into a long-anticipated partnership.

Talented new graduates from the fashion colleges in the Netherlands will once again be showcased at this Modefabriek on the Talent 2013 platform, selected as ever by the talent scout Carlo Wijnands.
