High street retailer, Monsoon, is feeling the effects of the economy; they have announced

plans to close stores across the UK in a cost cutting bid.

A consultation process was started on September 19th 2011 to try and identify which outlets to lose, with the group currently running over 400 Monsoon and Accessorize, the retailer’s sub brand, stores in the UK and around 600 worldwide.

Although Monsoon have refused to comment on the full extent of the closures, but it has been made clear that currently no head office positions are under threat.

It comes after news of other mid level high street retailers struggling during this economic downturn; Gap and New Look have also recently produced disappointing sales results.
