Mulberry opens second British factory

Luxury brand Mulberry has opened its second British factory, after securing funding from the Government’s
Regional Growth Fund.Opened by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, the factory called The Willows, after the nearby Willow Man sculpture and area’s history of basket making in Somerset, will double Mulberry’s UK production capacity.
Commenting at the launch, Clegg, said: “This new Mulberry factory is a major boost to the economy of the area, creating hundreds of new jobs thanks to this Government’s Regional Growth Fund. Mulberry is an international fashion brand based in Somerset and I am pleased that the Government is able to offer assistance to help them expand.
“This is the second time I have met apprentices from Mulberry, who always impress me with their drive, enthusiasm and skill. Companies like Mulberry and the people who work here are helping us to build a stronger economy and a fairer society for this generation and the next.”
The opening of The Willows is a new chapter in Mulberry’s manufacturing success story and reflects its 7.5 million pound investment in British manufacturing. The heritage brand also received a 2.5 million grant from the government’s Regional Growth Fund to help with recruitment and training costs. The new site, at full capacity will employ more than 300 full time craftsmen.
