New West End Company, the consortium responsible for the management

and promotion of London’s Bond Street, Oxford Street and Regent Street retail areas, has appointed Steven Medway to the newly created role of managing director – trading environment.

Medway will take up his role at the end of September and will be responsible for managing a number of projects to bring further improvements to the district; including a remit to enhance the West End’s shopper services and making sure visitors find a welcoming environment. He will report to New West End Company chief executive Richard Dickinson.

In addition, Medway will also be tasked with driving improvements to public spaces and to press the agenda on behalf of the New West End Company’s membership on issues such as traffic reduction measures.

He joins from Gap where he was store director for its West End stores, including the European flagship on Oxford Street. He is also the outgoing chairman of the Oxford Street Management Group, an advisory board set up by New West End Company, which he has chaired for the last two and a half years.

His appointment follows the news earlier this year that Jace Tyrell would be returning to the New West End Company in October as deputy chief executive.

Dickinson said: “A new senior management team further strengthens our resolve for the West End to remain the world’s favourite retail destination. Steven’s appointment ensures our agenda on improvement will be focused to engage all of our stakeholders on behalf of our members.

“His 14-years of retail experience means he is absolutely the right person to help oversee the West End’s continuation as a world-class shopping destination.”

Medway added: “I’m joining New West End Company at a critical and exciting time as several major capital investment projects will mean an enhanced West End for all to enjoy. I am looking forward to developing the West End’s long term viability by overseeing projects that will have a material effect on the trading environment.”
