Next launches own-brand computer

In a rather bizarre move, UK high street fashion retailer Next has launched its own-brand

Android tablet computer. The tablet, which is currently available to purchase for £180 on the retailer's online store, has baffled critiques struggling to understand why the retailer has opted for this product - tablets are emerging as a very popular computing platform but spectators will observe this new move with slight cynicism.

- 10 inch WXGA LCD touchscreen display
- Google android operating system
- 8GB storage + cardreader
- Arm 11 processor
- WiFi, 2 x USB ports, microphone and headphone socket
- Operates in portrait and landscape
 
The UK based retailer, which distributes through three main channels including Next Retail, Next Directory and Next International, recorded total revenues for the year ending January 2010 at £3.4 billion with pre-tax profits of £505 million.
