Following shortly after news broke of a series of abrupt departures

from French department store Galeries Lafayette upper management committee, president of Galeries Lafayette's department store division, Nicolas Houzé, explains the reason behind the sudden changes to its committee.

Son of group chairman Philippe Houzé, Nicolas Houzé, revealed the company's strategy behind the committee changes to be part of the Ambitions 2020 action plan, which aims to increase Galeries Lafayette growth. In an interview with French newspaper Les Echos, Houzé stated that he felt that it was necessary to change the company's style of management, as the organization was "too hierarchical". He added that he wanted to implement a "more agile system" which was more collaborative, "a cohesive team".

Houzé also felt that the Galeries Lafayette flagship store on Haussmann Boulevard needed more support to become a "full-fledged industry" and therefore created a new executive committee position to oversee the store which was filled by Agnés Vigneron, who has worked for the company for over thirty years.

Another new structural change Houzé implemented was the separation of the sales management and developed three separate sectors, one a user management, another dedicated to specific brands and one for specialized concepts such beauty, shoes and lingerie, the latter of which is led by director William Pats, who joined the company in 2010. Jean-Phillipe Marazzani, former head of marketing and digital works for electronics retailer Darty, is now in charge of the client and omnichannel department.

The French department store group will now focus on its three main priories, which consist of the continuation of its stores transformations, searching for innovation solutions for its province stores to help boost failing sales and developing its international presence.
