North of England biggest retail spending

The UK's biggest retail spenders are the North, according to a report

in the Mail on Sunday.

Despite the new consumer confidence that can be seen on London's high streets, booming consumer spending is being led by the North of England as shoppers headed back to high streets and online stores in September.

The continued rise in spending confirms recent data showing that the UK economy is still growing and consumer confidence is at its highest since before the financial crisis. Overall, spending was up by 3 percent in September compared with the same month last year – above the rate of inflation and marking the sixth month of spending growth.
